Cagla

Dr. Cagla Giray has extensive public policy, research, and business experience spanning science and policy communications to interdisciplinary research and evaluation at national and global levels. She is currently the Director of Communications at the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, housed in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Previously, Cagla worked at a global PR agency, Weber Shandwick where she supported integrated media, stakeholder engagement, and thought leadership for non-profit to Fortune 500 companies in the healthcare, social impact, and corporate sustainability sectors. Before her experience in the corporate communications sector, Dr. Giray served as the Director of Communications and Outreach of Penn State University’s Research-to- Policy Collaboration. She worked on the Hill to connect the scientific community with federal and state officials and coordinate congressional briefings on child and family policy issues. Concurrently, Dr. Giray was a consultant with the World Bank and provided technical input for social development, global health, and governance projects.

Prior to her career in communications and public policy, Dr. Giray was an applied researcher and developmental psychologist. She obtained competitive grants, conducted quantitative research studies on child and family well-being, and designed and led federally funded global health interventions across the United States, Jamaica, Turkey, and South and East Africa.

Dr. Giray has authored and coauthored peer-reviewed publications, policy reports, and briefs on science communication, global health, globalization, and cross-cultural psychology.
